Horse Therapy Work

Catherine works with adults and children in hospital care, with Gentle Carousel’s Reading Is Magic literacy program and with families who have experienced traumatic events.  She has become a special friend to thousands of children.

Nickname: She is usually called Catherine but sometimes Cate. Catherine was named after a little red headed equestrian lost in the Sandy Hook/Newtown, CT school tragedy after we met her parents.

Appearance: Catherine is known for her beauty. She has freckles, an amazing light apricot mane and tail and big blue eyes.

Special Skills: Catherine and therapy horse Magic were the first real horses to ever visit inside the famous Breyer Model Horse factory. Catherine has traveled across the country many times and can always be counted on in challenging situations, from being part of a country music concert in Nashville (yes she rode in a limousine) to working near law enforcement helicopters.

Favorite Thing: Catherine loves to jump. It is a favorite part of her daily exercise and training.

Personality: Catherine is very active but becomes very calm when she is working with families of patients in hospice care or who have experienced traumatic events. She visited children at Sandy Hook on Gentle Carousel’s second trip to the community and worked in Orlando after the Pulse nightclub tragedy. She is especially safe and loving with large groups of children in reading programs at libraries or schools.

Best Equine Friend: Catherine likes everyone but seems to spend the most time with her extra tiny buddy therapy horse Mozart and her best girlfriend Sweetheart.

What A School Yearbook Would Say: Prom Queen!

Catherine, you have a beautiful soul that is now lighting the days somewhere else. Stay in peace now, little one.

Mozart, you are making beautiful music and comforting others somewhere, somehow. We were blessed with your life here…may you also stay in peace, with your buddy Catherine.

Just so heartbreaking to think about these two.
I hope that the civil case came out in your favor.

So happy to see Catherine still in the lineup; it was such an evil tragedy that happened to her. I still think about her when I see the other horses.
